Last week Oracle users converged in Las Vegas, Nevada to share the latest insights, best practices, tips and resources during Collaborate 15, an annual Oracle Users Group Conference.

Produced by three independent users groups, OAUG, IOUG, and QUEST, Collaborate 15, is a Technology and Applications forum created exclusively for the Oracle Community.

If your company is like most small or medium sized businesses, you probably began and continue to manage finances with accounting software like QuickBooks, Zoho Weave or Freshbooks. While these products can be useful for very small organizations with simple operating procedures and accounting requirements, they can severely hamper the productivity and efficiency of growing companies with more complex requirements.  

Oracle Business Intelligence Applications (OBIA) is a set of comprehensive pre-built solutions built on top of the Oracle Business Intelligence platform. The solutions allow organizations to rapidly deploy business intelligence throughout an organization without the traditional cost and time associated with defining, designing and developing a custom data warehouse, ETL, metadata, reports and dashboards.

“You go to war with the army you have,” former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld famously remarked, “not the army you might want or wish to have.” 

The same can be said about today’s business landscapes and the role of modern finance. As you know, modern financial professionals certainly cannot choose or wish away the health of today’s current economic climate. However, they can choose to empower fellow finance teammates with winning strategies and tactics to outmaneuver the competition.

The Oracle Cloud Financials application has been available for a little over three years.  Oracle Cloud Financials is largely built on the strong and sturdy bones of Oracle E-Business Suite enhanced with the pre-built and integrated power of Oracle Essbase. Oracle Essbase is an analytical modeling software that provides a powerful environment for financial reporting, analysis, and business intelligence.  Combining the power of both products allows users to easily perform on the fly ad-hoc queries. 

For many Oracle E-Business Suite users (EBS), the move to Oracle Cloud Finanicals is quick and seamless.  Recent changes made to the Oracle Cloud Financials user interface (UI) and reporting capabilities allows for quicker access to information, greatly enhanced the overall user experience.

Out of the box Oracle's caching strategy is to let cache exist for an unlimited amount of time.  This is cleared out when the server is bounced.  This is almost never an ideal situation, so there are two options, each is available for individual reports.
