The Case for Pre-Built Oracle OBIEE Business Intelligence Applications

The need for instant, meaningful data has lead companies to finally realize the need to implement a Business Intelligence Solution. The days of the Excel spreadsheets, of hard coded Daily Flash Reports, or Access based sales metrics have at last disappeared over the Horizon. Good bye, old friends, you served us well! Now it is time to look to the future.

Released in the Spring of 2013, the latest release of Hyperion Planning has numerous new features to allow for an enhanced user experience with a more simplistic feel. We can now say after Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.3 has been out on the market for a few months that these enhancements are real and they’re spectacular!

Most of us know that the purpose of Business Intelligence is to turn raw data into usable, meaningful information to help organizations make faster, easier decisions. However, more and more CFOs and organizations are now realizing the substantial impact Business Intelligence can also have on the bottom line.

Recently, I arrived bright and early to support the first month-end close after a large client R12 upgrade from 11.5.9 to support closing of the books. The invoices for the month were 10 million dollars, but the revenue in General Ledger was only 5 million and the CFO looked a bit concerned. Where was the rest of the revenue hiding?

Recently, Business Technology Services (BizTech) acquired EDS Group. Officially announced on June 13^th, the acquisition continues to create a cohesive meld of corporate ethos, enthusiasm, and expertise.

EDS Group provided Hyperion, Oracle Essbase, and data management services to Fortune 500 companies. The recent acquisition has enabled BizTech to strengthen its broad portfolio of Oracle services.

My last blog (Here, There and Everywhere: Business Intelligence on the Go) discussed how Companies can use Oracle 'Business Intelligence on the Go' tools to improve visibility into real data from almost any location in the world using little more than a cell phone. The response was very positive, perhaps owing to the fact that it had a Beatles theme to it. Fun, full of sunshine and hope, and providing answers to questions that many had pondered for seemingly forever, they and the article, was well received. After all, who doesn’t like the Beatles?

As a follow-up to my prior Advanced Supply Chain Planning (ASCP) post, I decided to provide a more detailed write-up.

What is ASCPA, and what does it do?

Successful supply chain management starts with efficient supply chain planning. The scope of this discussion pertains to one section of the Value Chain that I often refer to as, “inside the four walls of the Supply Chain". I am a self-proclaimed Beatles fanatic, as well an Oracle Business Intelligence and Mobile technology enthusiast. Believe it or not, these qualities aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. Not anymore. When I think about the availability of Oracle Business Intelligence metrics, dashboards and reports on the go, I am often reminded of the great Beatles Song, Here, There and Everywhere (Paul McCartney’s favorite Beatles song.)

In today’s fast paced environment, managers need the latest information, access to reports, updates on customers and clients and the ability to see key performance metrics on a daily basis. The need to react to critical information almost instantaneously is the biggest change in the business world in the past ten years.

Nucleus Research recently released its second half 2012 on premise and cloud-based CRM Value Matrix. The report places two of Oracle's CRM products in the Leaders quadrant: Oracle CRM On Demand and Oracle Fusion CRM. This is significant since Oracle Fusion CRM is one of the newest entrants into the Matrix. Three of the top four rated products in terms of functionlity were Oracle products: Oracle CRM On Demand, Oracle Fusion CRM, and Oracle Siebel CRM.
