ADI and Desktop Integrators - Collaborate Presentation

Author: Lee Briggs Date: Apr 4, 2011 12:53:43 PM

In 11i, the go-to tool of the financial analyst was Application Desktop Integrator (ADI) – from here, an analyst could format financial reports, drill down on the numbers produced to get journal line detail, enter and upload a journal entry or an entire budget.

With the changes in architecture in R12, ADI is no longer supported, and the functionality provided by ADI has been replaced by other modules. BI Publisher has become the primary report formatting tool, Report Manager delivers report repository functionality (as well as drill-down functionality for FSG reports),and many white-papers and presentations exist for these areas.

The Evolution of BI

It’s 11:45 PM on a Friday night. Hopefully, you know where your kids are but, do you know where your delivery shipments are? Do you have enough inventory on hand to meet your promise dates? Regardless of the industry, all enterprises need access to timely and accurate information to operate effectively. For many organizations, this information is locked up in siloed applications or in the minds of key employees. But, more and more, there is a growing awareness of the need to release this information to those who can best make use of it. We like to call this, Business Intelligence (BI).

Of course, BI is by no means new to the business community. I work with many IT professionals who have been “doing BI” for over a decade. However, there seems to be an increased urgency across all lines of business suggesting that the long cold Winter of disconnected data is over and the Spring of Business Intelligence is finally here. Perhaps your company has already embraced this paradigm shift, adopting standard dimensions for Master Data and developing performance metrics to gauge customer value and operational efficiency. I know that for many of our customers from industries as diverse as the Devereux Foundation, Royal Bank of Scotland and Teva Pharmaceuticals, Business Intelligence has become an integral part of the corporate culture of “managing by fact”. For those companies still new to BI, the prospect of sifting through years of stove pipe development may seem daunting at first (because it is) but one of the benefits of BI is that organizations can implement one subject area at a time, gaining real business value and momentum with each new BI application.

E-Business Suite R12- A Global Solution

Author: Lee Briggs Date: Mar 31, 2011 12:48:47 PM

The severity of the recent global recession created extraordinary uncertainty among business executives across all industries and geographies. Executives became increasingly aware of looking for ways to cut costs, and IT budgets were much more scrutinized than in the past. However, this recession experience also created the opportunity to challenge mindsets about managing operations, even finance operations and practices. As a result, many organizations established a strategic agenda that focused on driving the business through this recessionary period with the goal of being stronger after the recession than prior. These organizations focused on creating a strategic agenda that would drive efficiency and productivity while reducing complexity across the enterprise without hindering future growth opportunities. This strategic agenda sought cost reductions and made selected investments that inherently supported these objectives.

Most KPIs become common sense, once you understand the underlying measures. I want to introduce two important measures that are often ignored by companies. The first measure is: Cost to acquire customers (CAC). To calculate CAC, consider and capture all of costs (Lead generation, Marketing, Sales, Partnerships, Support staff) required to capture a customer. If this proves to be too cumbersome, create a baseline estimate. We can help you derive this just call us.

Business Intelligence (BI) has become a mainstream approach to gain insight into information locked away in corporate operational and financial systems. The drastic reduction in storage costs, consolidation of software tools and availability of skilled practitioners has made BI affordable and cost-justifiable for both large and medium-sized organizations alike. Gone are the days where projects included a seven figure price tag and upwards of a year to complete.
